Appliance repairs typically cost from £100 upwards since most repair people charge a minimum call-out fee. But beyond that, it varies significantly. For example, repairing a refrigerator is usually more expensive then repairing an oven, but that all depends on the model and the problem. An easier way to decide might be to look at the cost of a replacement.   

It’s worth bearing in mind that for appliances older than five years or electrical equipment older than three years, we only pay part of the cost of a replacement, and we don’t cover items that are more than eight years old (full details here). So, if your appliances are all quite old - or, conversely, if they’re all brand new and covered under warranty - then it probably isn’t worth it. But if you have one or more items that are out of warranty but less than eight years old, then Multiple Appliance cover could be a good choice. 

No, we think it’s best to let you choose your preferred repairer for this instead of forcing you to use a small pool of repairers, who might take longer to reach you. If your repairperson meets the professional standards mentioned in your policy T&Cs, then you’re free to use whoever you like. But do bear in mind your policy’s claim limits, so it’s probably best to get an estimate from anyone you contact before agreeing to use them, just in case they charge more than you’re covered for.  

You’re free to use more expensive repairers, but if they do charge more than your policy covers you for, you’ll need to pay for anything above your policy limit.
